Mid-Term Three is a busy time of year for students, especially as our Year 12s wrap up their Unit Four studies before moving into exam revision next term. You may start to see homework building up, so it is timely to check in with your child and talk to them about their organisation and study habits. Using the College diary as a focus for your discussion can be really useful, as we expect all students to be using this consistently to record their homework and deadlines.
A reminder about homework expectations across the different year levels:
These times can include study and revision, which should be built into your child’s homework routine, wherever possible.
Work non-submission and Study Hall
When a student doesn’t complete their homework, the subject teacher may require the student to attend study hall at lunch time the following day. This usually follows prior warnings and/or a pattern of not meeting deadlines.
Study hall is a supervised opportunity for students to complete the outstanding work or to catch up on other work that requires attention. Study hall runs during the second half of lunch times and attendance is compulsory. Once informed by the teacher, it is the student’s responsibility to attend or arrange an alternative time if they have a conflicting appointment.
The supervising study hall teacher records attendance and if a student does not attend their assigned study hall then parents are notified via CareMonkey and an after-school detention is issued. These detentions take place on Friday afternoons on a fortnightly basis and are important for reinforcing our standards and expectations around organisation and study habits. We greatly appreciate the support of parents in this regard as we work to build effective study routines with our students.
